Gallery > Torn Wing: An Elegy To Childhood

I began having the same nightmare night after night.
I would awake, run into the hallway.
Screaming and terrified.

My mother would emerge to calm me.
I tried to explain between broken gasps and sobs,
I was falling off the globe,

The ball turned round and round
spinning faster with each rotation
I dangled, fighting with all my might
the pull of gravity.

Each night.
Nothing was wrong. she said,
It was just a bad dream,
I knew everything was wrong.
