Gallery > Torn Wing: An Elegy To Childhood

I am a white girl splayed and spotted,
peaceful and still,
eternally safe
in the shelter of an airshaft.

Floating downwards I sing songs
to myself,
hymns I remember
from the church where
I went as a little girl.

From life’s prison I fall,
lying unnamed
all through the night
in the dark
soaking rain
of the million-footed city.
