The Fall: In Homage to Clare & Camus
THE FALL
In Homage to Camus and Clare
"I am: yet what I am none cares or knows," John Clare, I Am
"We're going forward, but nothing changes." Albert Camus, The Fall
The Fall is in response to the demise of a small family run Dairy Farm, in Sullivan County, New York.
On the farm I walked on a late fall day under a gun metal sky over hills, forests and fields of green grass where cows once pastured.
When I entered the now dark and silent barn where Baby, Cindy, Reba, Betsy, and their barn mates, once dutifully stood to be milked, I felt The Fall.
Many of us are weighted with the fear of falling from the heights of who we have risen to be, or what we hope, dream, or hold in our grasp. We may fall for the very same economic reason the ‘girls’ had to go bellowing together into a big truck one recent day.
As I roamed freely in the footsteps of cows on this fall day, the poignant paradox of beauty and loss fell heavily down.
